MUSEO SAN TELMO

MUSEO SAN TELMO

San Telmo Museum is the largest centre dedicated to interpreting Basque society, right in the heart of the city’s Old Town, in one of the few buildings that survived the fire in 1813.
Located in a 16th century Dominican convent renovated in 2011 by architects Nieto and Sobejano and extended with daring modern architecture, the museum’s got a valuable artistic heritage: church with 11 extraordinary canvases (784 m2) by painter Josep M. Sert; a cloister and tower declared National Monuments back in 1913; works by well-known artists -Rubens, Tintoretto, Zuloaga, Chillida, Oteiza…- and rich historical and ethnographical collections.
